It’s funny that those used to be desirable characteristics in hot dogs. Now it has gone the opposite way. people want natural casings and a “snap” which actually means “hard to cut.” Maybe the fact that there is a demand for “old school” hot dogs and such is a good sign. Maybe the post war [...]

So when I was over at grainedit on a work field trip/design book shopping spree, I picked up some Soviet-era Czech Matchbook Covers. The design of these things can be pretty amazing considering they are such mundane & everyday objects. My favorite is the one show above. It appears to be a large ear of [...]

BibliOdysey has some great scans of illustrations from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. William Wallace Denslow (1856-1915) did the fun illustrations.

There is a lot of talk about how crappy and ruined our infrastructure is these days. That is pretty much true. It wasn’t too long ago that all these bridges were new and amazing enough for people to make postcards about them. Some guy on Flickr collected quite a few of these.
Check them out. [...]

Description from the site:
By the end of World War II Japanese army consisted of half of military command units and volunteers and half of conscripted civilians, total amount to 6 million men. Soon after Potsdam Declaration and surrender of discretion the Quantun Army in Manchuria(North-East of China) was marooned by Soviet forces. Soundly defeated, all [...]

Is this how I see people at call centers?
Yeah probably. I bet they don’t look as “Lil Richard” as this guy in real life, but so what. I am pretty sure they are all as mildly retarded as that guy looks. While I was casually doodling away, I was “inspired” by the mindless smiles of [...]
